Rainscreen Systems

Rainscreen cladding pertains to the installation of a ventilated outer layer onto a fresh or existing edifice. This system employs a dual-wall construction technique where the outer layer shields against rainfall, while the inner layer provides thermal insulation, curbs excessive air leakage, and withstands wind loading. The outer layer functions akin to a breathable membrane, while the inner layer minimizes energy losses.

The structural framework of the building remains completely dry since neither water nor thermal insulation comes into contact with it. Any water that manages to infiltrate the joints between panels is eliminated through evaporation and drainage within the cavity.

Thanks to the Rainscreen principle, water droplets are not compelled to pass through the panel joints or openings. The wind pressure acting on the external surface of the panel is balanced within the cavity, resulting in an equalised environment. Hence, there exists no notable pressure difference that could drive rainwater through the joints.

During severe weather conditions, a small quantity of water may permeate the outer cladding. Nonetheless, this water will descend down the rear surface of the panels as droplets and gradually disperse through evaporation and drainage.
