The solution and approach

The 700m2 Bailey Sure-Ply PVC membrane roof replaced the existing timber shingle waterproofing layer, with the new roof fixed to an 18mm plywood deck. A free site survey and roof specification found that the existing shingles and battens needed to be stripped off, but the existing rafters were in good condition. As part of Bailey’s involvement in the Lindfield Primary roof refurbishment, the initial site survey identified that the pre-existing roof was in poor condition and many of the ridge tiles were starting to crack or were not present at all. Bailey recommended that the roof be completely stripped and a new Single ply membrane installed.

Recommendations were also made with regards to including a breather membrane and allowing adequate airflow, as no ventilation was present within the pre-existing roof construction. These suggestions combined to minimise condensation risk, which may have been the reason for the previous roof to fail.
